1. Import Documents
Commercial invoice & packing list requires information of;
• Quantity, value, commodity
• Trading terms, Ex Works, CIF, FOB, etc
2. Commodity Code
Obtain correct commodity code, this can be checked on the Customs Department website, please talk with your forwarder. The code classifies the goods for:
• Customs Declaration and the Duty & VAT applied
3. Are Products Allowed to Import?
Some products may not be allowed/restricted, check this before you ship the cargo from China. Commons items under control are:
• Animal skins/parts
• Antiques, Ivory, etc
• Dangerous goods
4. Economic Operator Registration Identification (EORI)
EORI number is required when importing products to the EU, your freight forwarder will also need it.
5. VAT & Duty
Importer of record needs to pay for VAT, calculated based on Total Customs Value. The Customs Value = Cost of the products + Cost of shipping + Import duty. Many products from China are subject to import duty.
